Louisiana Breast Augmentation
Part of having a nice figure entails having a proportionate chest. When breast size is flattering, clothes fit better, and the swimsuit season is something to look forward to rather than dread.
For the right candidate, a breast enlargement in Louisiana (breast augmentation) can not only enhance your outward look, it can also make you feel better about your appearance, causing you to exude confidence from the inside out.
To learn why so many women choose breast enlargement each year, and to find out if the procedure is right for you, request a consultation at The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery or call our office at (888) 791-1053. Conveniently located in Shreveport, we serve patients from Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas, and offer a complete array of cosmetic surgery and skin care treatments through Jade MediSpa.
Who Needs It
Our breast enlargement patients from Lafayette and Shreveport, Louisiana choose surgery for several reasons. After years of aging and gravity, women in their 40s and 50s are prime candidates for the surgery, as breast augmentation (often in conjunction with a breast lift procedure) can restore a more youthful form. Others are simply women of all ages who have never liked the smallness of their chest. They want clothes to fit better and feel the procedure will enhance their appearance.
Preparing for Your Breast Enlargement
During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will discuss with you what you would like to achieve through surgery. You will decide the cup size and shape you will be most happy with, where the incision will be made and whether or not to insert the implant over or underneath the muscle wall.
Today, women have the choice between saline and a new generation of silicone breast implants. The latest silicone gel implants are made from cohesive silicone which will stick together if punctured, torn or cut. Studies have revealed a strong safety profile and this safety track record is what led the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve this implant type for widespread use in November 2006. Most women believe that silicone gel implants look and feel more like natural breast tissue, but saline implants continue to be a popular option as well. Your plastic surgeon at The Wall Center can share much more information about implant types during your consultation so you can make an informed decision.
Dr. Wall, Jr.'s Patient Becomes Playboy Centerfold
As a young teen, Valerie had always hoped to develop cleavage and naturally full breasts. But by age 18, her small size A breasts motivated her to choose breast augmentation to achieve the body of her dreams. Her enhancements brought her increased confidence and the privilege of becoming Playboy Magazine's Miss September 2008.

In addition to the material used to fill the implants, there are many other breast implant options. For instance, both textured and smooth implants are available. The textured implant tends to stay in place by attaching itself to the surrounding tissues, while a smooth implant tends to move around more. However, textured implants can reveal rippling on the sides of the breast and have been shown to have a slightly higher deflation rate in some studies.
Besides the implant itself, you will also need to consider placement (above or below the pectoral muscle) and incision location (for instance, underneath the breast, on the edge of the areola, or in the armpit). Again, these issues will be discussed fully during the consultation at our Louisiana plastic surgery center.
It is also important to note that after 10 or 15 years, most implants need to be replaced. Common side effects from breast implants can include hardening of the breast tissue around the implant, a condition known as "capsular contracture." Your doctor may want to remove this surgically by removing the excess tissue or replacing the implant.
The Surgery
Most of our breast enlargement patients will have their surgery under general anesthesia so they can sleep comfortably through the procedure. Our surgeons take care to make incisions in such a way that scarring can be inconspicuous. The implant will be inserted and centered around the nipple. The incisions will then be sutured together and bandaged. After a few days the bandages will be replaced by a surgical bra, offering ample support to protect your breast shape.
Results
Swelling and bruising should steadily diminish over the weeks following surgery. After about six weeks, swelling and scarring should improve to the point that you have a good idea of the final look. Most women are very happy with their new look and feel more confident after surgery.
