Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is a fast and easy way to refresh dull skin texture and tired-looking skin. Although topical treatments can improve certain skin concerns, sometimes a more robust skin treatment like dermaplaning can be beneficial. We offer dermaplaning for people experiencing lackluster skin at our Shreveport med spa.

How Does Dermaplaning Work?

During the treatment, your provider uses a hand-held device similar to an electric razor to gently resurface desired areas. Dermaplaning can improve a wide range of skin concerns, such as acne scars, actinic keratosis, and unwanted facial hair or “peach fuzz.” After the surface skin cells are removed, your provider will apply a soothing gel to your skin to reduce redness and irritation.

This treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, and you can resume your normal routine immediately.

Is Dermaplaning Good for Your Skin?

Dermaplaning is an effective and safe treatment when performed by an experienced professional. Aftereffects are usually limited to mild redness or skin dryness, and since only the very top layer of skin is removed, scarring or other adverse effects are rare. Talk to your provider about how often to repeat this treatment to maintain your results.

Your provider will discuss ways to protect your skin after treatment, such as wearing sunscreen outdoors and using a daily moisturizer.

What Skin Concerns Does Dermaplaning Improve?

Although individual results will differ, most people find that dermaplaning addresses a number of skin concerns, including:

• Rough, dry skin texture
• Hyperpigmentation
• Dull skin
• Fine lines and mild wrinkles
• Acne and pitted scars
• “Peach fuzz”

Can I Combine Dermaplaning With Other Skin Treatments?

Dermaplaning is gentle enough to combine with a variety of facial treatments, such as chemical peels and laser skin rejuvenation. Since the outer epidermis is removed during dermaplaning, follow-up facial treatments and serums can better penetrate your skin. Your provider will assess your skin type and concerns before recommending treatments to combine with your dermaplaning session.

Who Should Not Have Dermaplaning?

Postpone your dermaplaning session if you are experiencing an active skin condition, such as acne or rosacea. Since this treatment exfoliates your skin, it can cause irritation and infection when active acne or rosacea is present. Additionally, talk to your provider if you take certain medications like isotretinoin.
