What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian butt lift is a buttock augmentation procedure that typically involves removing fat with liposuction from areas where it’s not wanted, purifying the fat in a centrifuge, and injecting it into the buttocks. Most traditional techniques overfill the buttocks or require additional transfers because not all the fat survives.

A Smarter Approach to the Brazilian Butt Lift

We utilize a sophisticated technique called safe subcutaneous buttock augmentation (SSBA), which combines two groundbreaking body contouring techniques developed by Dr. Wall Jr.: SAFELipo and fat grafting with expansion vibration lipofilling (EVL).

  • SAFELipo is a multi-step liposuction enhancement that gently separates, equalizes, and refines fat for a smoother, more natural-looking shape. This process not only beautifully sculpts your donor areas but also yields the highest-quality fat for transfer.
  • EVL is a fat transfer technique performed with an exploded-tip cannula that creates space under the skin immediately before placing the fat, enabling the surgeon to double or even quadruple the volume of fat with greater precision than possible with the standard syringe technique.
  • SSBA, an alternative to standard BBL, involves limiting fat placement to the subcutaneous layer (just under the skin) rather than into or under the gluteal muscle, thereby reducing the complication rate to nearly zero.

Recovery After SAFELipo BBL

Recuperation after a BBL with SAFELipo is relatively comfortable. Expect mild swelling and soreness in your buttocks and the areas where liposuction was performed. You’ll need to keep weight off your buttocks for a few weeks, sitting with a pillow under your thighs when necessary. You may also need to wear a compression garment to minimize swelling after liposuction.

General Recovery Timeline

While recovery varies with individual patient factors, you can expect it to progress along the following general timeline:

Day of surgery: Return home in the care of an adult.

Day 1: Begin taking slow, gentle walks throughout the day.

2 weeks: Ready to return to work, school, and other light daily activities.

3 weeks: Begin sitting on your buttocks for short periods of time.

4 to 6 weeks: Discontinue compression garments (with your surgeon’s approval).

6 to 8 weeks: Tightness in the buttocks eases as swelling fades.

  • Sleep face down or on your side for at least 2 weeks.
  • After 2 weeks, limit sitting on your buttocks for the next two months.
  • For the first 6 weeks, wear soft, loose-fitting pants, dresses, or skirts.
