Labiaplasty

Here in Shreveport, Louisiana, we often hear from women with concerns of a more intimate nature. These patients express dissatisfaction with the size or shape of their labia, which can hinder them from fully enjoying their favorite physical activities and even sex. These women know that the consequences of feeling self-conscious or physically uncomfortable can be far-reaching, affecting their relationships and their confidence. Labiaplasty is a surprisingly simple solution that can yield satisfying results.

Dr. Holly Wall blends clinical knowledge, a keen aesthetic sensibility, and gentle sensitivity to create labiaplasty results that are beautiful in both form and function. To learn more, request your consultation online or call The Wall Center at  (318) 795-0801. Conveniently located in Shreveport, our physicians serve patients from Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas.

Who Needs It

Although labiaplasty is typically classified as a cosmetic procedure, many factors unrelated to appearance can contribute to a woman’s decision to undergo the surgery. The “inner lips,” or labia minora, are the smaller, hairless folds of skin and tissue on either side of the vaginal opening. Some women have naturally long or asymmetrical labia minora, while others experience changes due to childbirth or aging.

Uneven, extended, or oversized labia can lead to a host of concerns:

  • Feelings of self-consciousness or discomfort during sexual activity
  • Physical discomfort in swimsuits or tight clothing
  • Reduced enjoyment of physical activities, such as cycling

Dr. Wall and our team understand that these topics aren’t always easy to talk about, but they are important to a woman’s sense of femininity and well-being. We approach each consultation with compassion and discretion to determine whether labiaplasty would be a good fit for your goals.

Preparing for Labiaplasty

During your consultation with Dr. Wall, you’ll discuss your medical history, lifestyle factors that could affect your surgery, and your short- and long-term goals. This private, one-on-one meeting is a great opportunity to share your goals for surgery and explore different avenues to create the results you want.

In some cases, Dr. Wall may suggest a reduction of the labia majora, or outer lips. Some women want their outer lips to appear more youthful and full. Fat grafting can be used to plump the labia majora. Labiaplasty is also a common addition to Mommy Makeovers, too.

ThermiVa™: A Nonsurgical Alternative

In some cases, Dr. Wall may suggest alternative or complementary procedures, such as nonsurgical ThermiVa™. ThermiVa may be preferable to patients who wish to avoid surgery. Although it can create some impressive results, it’s not a perfect equivalent to surgery and may not be the best choice for everyone. Dr. Wall will help you find the best approach for your body.

The Surgery

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure. Surgery is typically less than an hour and a half and you will be asleep during surgery. Depending on the details of your surgical plan, she uses various techniques to carefully resize and reshape your primary areas of concern. Her approach ensures natural-looking results that preserve sensation. You may return home shortly after your surgery is complete, but you’ll likely be groggy from anesthesia. Be sure you have a friend or family member to drive you.

Results

Swelling and soreness are common after labiaplasty, so it’s important to follow Dr. Wall’s directions to maintain your comfort and speed your healing. Unless your job is particularly strenuous, you can return to the office in just a few days. However, Dr. Wall recommends postponing exercise and sexual activity for at least 6 weeks, as the fragile tissue needs time to heal undisturbed.
