Whether you need a facelift—and the type of surgery most appropriate for you—will depend on your degree of facial aging. A standard facelift addresses the neck and lower two-thirds of the face, while extended facelifts will also typically reposition and rejuvenate the forehead and brows if needed.
Patients seeking to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and mouth without treating the jowl and neck area may be better suited to a mid facelift. This procedure involves shorter incisions and allows our patients to enjoy a quicker recovery time. It is also a cornerstone of many facial makeovers that combine eyelid surgery or a brow lift.
In some cases, patients may need an isolated neck lift, completed entirely from an incision below the chin. This procedure is reserved for specific patients, usually women in their 30s and 40s and men of most ages, who don’t have extensive aging above the neck.

Just like fingerprints, each face is entirely unique. Therefore, incisions and techniques will vary with each patient in order to achieve the desired results. Our surgeons will create a detailed plan for your facelift, taking into account your facial anatomy, the extent of skin laxity and sagging present, and your aesthetic goals.
For a full facelift, our surgeons make incisions just at or above the hairline at the temples. These incisions run down past the ears and disappear into the hairline behind them, where they will heal discreetly. A second incision may be used under the chin to address skin laxity in the neck. Using the latest surgical advances, our surgeons trim away excess skin, tighten the remainder, and reposition the underlying tissue for a naturally refreshed look.
For a mid facelift, tiny incisions are typically made around the eyes only, with elevation of the entire cheek complex. The surgeon tightens the skin in the surgical area, smoothing most wrinkles and repositioning cheeks that may have descended over time. Scars are so subtle that no one will know you had the procedure unless you tell them.
To enhance your results, our surgeons may also incorporate micro-fat grafting using Dr. Wall Jr.’s SAFELipo technique to collect fat from a donor site. The fat is then purified and transferred to the face using another of Dr. Wall Jr.’s innovations: expansion vibration lipofilling (EVL). Your surgeon can restore volume to the mid face and temples and promote more youthful contours to complement your facelift.
Full facelift patients typically need 3 weeks before they feel comfortable being seen in public, while mid facelift patients usually need only 1. Regardless of which procedure you choose, the following can aid your recovery.

There is no “right” age for a facelift, as the decision to undergo the procedure depends on an individual’s unique aging process and goals. While many consider a facelift in their 40s to 60s, some may opt for it earlier or later.
Facelift surgery provides more comprehensive and long-lasting results by addressing sagging skin and underlying muscle laxity. Dermal fillers and BOTOX (or another neuromodulator) can enhance specific facial features and temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles. While these non-surgical options are effective for certain concerns, they do not provide the same level of lifting and tightening as a surgical facelift.
If you primarily want to address sagging cheeks and aging in the mid face (which covers the area between your lower eyelid and upper lip), a mid facelift may be the more suitable option. However, if you have more extensive signs of aging, including on the lower face and neck, a full facelift offers more comprehensive rejuvenation.
Unless there is a complication with your initial facelift or you are dissatisfied with your results, you typically won’t need a secondary procedure. However, some patients elect to have a second facelift when they feel the aging process affects the quality of their initial results.
