Staying at the forefront of an ever-changing field like plastic surgery means continually learning, innovating, and sharing knowledge with fellow surgeons. Over the years, I’ve traveled around the world teaching advanced techniques in SAFELipo®, breast augmentation, tummy tuck surgery, and other areas of aesthetic plastic surgery.
These opportunities to exchange ideas with surgeons from around the globe have helped me bring new perspectives back to my patients at The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery in Shreveport. Here’s a look back at some of the international conferences and teaching engagements that have been highlights of my career.
Sharing Plastic Surgery Expertise Around the World
My speaking engagements have taken me to conferences and operating rooms around the world. The following appearances from 2014 offer a glimpse into the opportunities I’ve had to share surgical techniques, exchange ideas with colleagues, and contribute to advances in aesthetic plastic surgery.
ISAPS Los Cabos Conference — Mexico
In July 2014, I addressed the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) at the organization’s conference in stunning Los Cabos, Mexico. ISAPS is an international professional organization dedicated to advancing aesthetic plastic surgery education and patient safety. It was an honor to have the opportunity to speak to my peers from around the world.
Plastic Surgery The Meeting — Chicago
In October 2014, I headed to the Windy City to speak at Plastic Surgery, The Meeting, the annual scientific meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (now known as The Aesthetic Society).
I was gratified to serve my second term as co-chair of the Instructional Course Committee. I also spoke on several topics, including advances in Mommy Makeovers and tummy tuck surgery, managing difficult problems in breast augmentation, and other subjects during panel presentations and lectures.
APRSS Annual Congress — South Africa
Also in October 2014, I was a keynote speaker at the annual congress of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa (APRSS) in Cape Town.
Over several days, I shared my perspectives on SAFELipo® techniques, revision liposuction, mommy makeovers, and the “7 Deadly Sins of Abdominoplasty.”
Mentor LEAD Meeting — Breast Implant Innovation
Dr. Holly Casey Wall and I also attended Mentor’s LEAD meeting to discuss developments in the breast implant industry. The annual meeting brought together leading Mentor breast implant providers from across the country, and it was an honor to participate in discussions about advances in breast augmentation.
Israel Society for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery — Israel
I was also invited to serve as a keynote speaker at the 40th Annual Meeting of the Israel Society for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery in my role as a traveling pofessor for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
My presentations focused on creating and maintaining attractive results in breast augmentation combined with short-scar breast lift surgery. I was also invited to teach courses on incorporating SAFELipo® into surgical practice, advanced abdominoplasty techniques, and managing challenging cases in aesthetic breast surgery.
Continuing To Advance Plastic Surgery Education Worldwide
Since those early speaking engagements, I’ve continued to share my experience with plastic surgeons around the world through lectures, surgical demonstrations, and professional education. Over the course of my career, I’ve delivered more than 2,000 invited lectures and live surgical demonstrations across 6 continents, teaching techniques in SAFELipo®, breast enhancement, body contouring, and complex revision surgery.
It’s especially rewarding to have this work recognized by my colleagues. In 2019, I received the Outstanding Teacher Award from UT Southwestern, followed by the Ted Lockwood Award for Excellence in Body Contouring in 2023. These honors reflect an important part of my career: helping other surgeons refine their techniques and advance the specialty.
My work has also extended to clinical research. Dr. Holly Casey Wall and I served as principal investigators in the clinical trials supporting the FDA’s 2024 approval of Motiva breast implants. At The Wall Center in Shreveport, I also help train the next generation of plastic surgeons through our aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship. Having performed more than 25,000 procedures throughout my career, I bring extensive hands-on surgical experience to my teaching. In turn, exchanging ideas with other surgeons continues to inform my approach to patient care.
Bringing Global Expertise Home to Shreveport
It’s a tremendous honor to share my perspectives on plastic surgery with colleagues around the world and bring new ideas and insights back to my patients here in Louisiana. Although a busy schedule of speaking engagements can be demanding, I believe exchanging knowledge with other surgeons is an invaluable way to enrich my practice and contribute to the advancement of plastic surgery.
