What is BOTOX®, and how does it differ from dermal fillers?

BOTOX Cosmetic is botulinum toxin that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, such as frown lines and crow's feet. We now have multiple options to use for botulinum toxin, including Dysport® and XEOMIN®.. We have found that a particular brand of toxin may work better or last longer for individual patients than others.

Dermal fillers help fill in wrinkles caused by loose skin or diminished facial volume. They are used on all areas of the face, often to enhance lips or fill in nasolabial folds, as well as to replenish lost volume in the cheeks or under the eyelids. Certain fillers work better than others on differing parts of the face, and a careful analysis needs to be performed to determine what will work best for you.

Neither BOTOX nor dermal fillers require extensive preparation before treatment at Jade MediSpa. The best way to determine which treatment is right for you is to schedule a consultation with one of our specialists. Your questions will be answered, and a specialized treatment plan will be designed to meet your individual needs.

What's the typical recovery process for a medical spa procedure?

Although recovery time varies depending on the extent and type of treatment, one of the benefits of minimally invasive procedures is that there is usually little or no downtime. Slight swelling or bruising may occur following some procedures, but there are no incisions that take time to heal. You can usually return to your normal routine immediately.

Are laser treatments painful?

We seek to offer the latest technology at The Wall Center for Plastic Surgery, and were the first practice in Louisiana to offer Fraxel® laser technology. Treatments target fine lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration, scars, sunspot and age spots, while simultaneously increasing collagen production. We are able to tailor treatments based on a patient's tolerance for pain for a more comfortable experience.

Laser technology is used for a wide range of treatments, each with its own set of benefits. One of the most popular procedures at our medical spa, laser vein treatment, achieves substantial reduction or elimination of discoloration from veins and other vascular lesions on the body. Most patients report that treatment is relatively painless and that the skin remains cool throughout the procedure.

Patients often turn to our medical spa for laser hair removal from Shreveport, Alexandria, and other Lousiana communities. Laser hair removal is a simple treatment that is effective for areas such as the back, legs, arms, face and bikini area. During treatment, the skin is cooled as a laser targets the unwanted hair. The cooling process helps patients feel comfortable, so effective and long-lasting results can be achieved. There is minimal discomfort following the procedure.

Lasers are used for a number of other procedures as well, including tattoo removal. Various laser strengths are used depending on the type of treatment, and each procedure is customized to suit the patient's exact needs.

Can I combine more than one treatment during the same visit?

Combining treatments is a great way to address multiple concerns for quicker, more comprehensive results. In Louisiana, skin care patients often combine BOTOX with a dermal filler to diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles on more than one area of the face. Some procedures, such as laser hair removal, require a series of treatments over a period of several weeks for optimal results.

Fraxel laser treatments are commonly combined with other procedures due to their effectiveness. Fraxel utilizes specially designed technology with multiple wavelengths and fractional resurfacing. Patients often turn to this procedure because it is so effective at correcting aging and sun damage.

How does CoolSculpting® differ from liposuction?

Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting requires no anesthetic, incisions or recovery time. This innovative procedure uses a specialized cooling technology to destroy fat cells, which the body gradually eliminates during the weeks and months following treatment. This non-surgical technique is designed to target areas of fat in the abdomen, flanks, and hips. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved and a great option for people who need a simple treatment in one hour with no downtime that can easily fit into their busy schedules.

Liposuction, including our trademarked SAFELipo® procedure, is not recommended for major weight loss, but it can achieve much more extensive results than CoolSculpting in the right patients. When it comes to CoolSculpting and SAFELipo, one is not necessarily better than the other. Patients should consult with our plastic surgeons to discover what procedure will most effectively achieve their cosmetic goals.

How can I maintain the results of my treatments?

Treatments such as Fraxel laser skin resurfacing will provide long-lasting results with little or no follow-up. Other procedures, such as BOTOX and dermal fillers, are temporary and will have to be repeated over time. Depending on the treatment, you may need to reevaluate your appearance and goals with our skin care professionals one or more times a year for optimum results.

Our specialists have compiled a full array of skin care products to meet a variety of needs. These products will help keep skin looking refreshed by moisturizing and protecting it. We also offer skin care products for Shreveport area patients that can increase collagen production to help skin look youthful.
