From Walk-On to World-Class

Dr. Fruge brings a uniquely focused and relentless approach to plastic surgery. His surgical artistry was shaped by the grit and discipline he developed as a walk-on football player at LSU. Through his unwavering effort, Dr. Fruge rose to become a scholarship athlete and special teams captain on the 2011 SEC Championship team.

That same work ethic and attention to detail now define his work in the operating room. The focus, leadership, and drive he honed on the field continue to guide Dr. Fruge’s commitment to surgical excellence.

A Champion’s Drive – A Surgeon’s Precision

Dr. Fruge graduated from LSU with a degree in nutritional and food sciences and a minor in biology before attending medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Fruge earned numerous awards for his leadership, academic excellence, and community service.

Ranked first in his medical school class with a perfect 4.0 GPA, Dr. Fruge also scored in the top 1% nationally on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) for both his Step 1 and Step 2 (Clinical Knowledge) exams and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

His extraordinary performance academically and on the USMLE allowed Dr. Fruge to match into the extremely competitive Harvard Plastic Surgery Residency Program. He continued to impress during his rigorous 6-year integrated residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery, passing his Step 3 exam with flying colors and outscoring his peers on the national Plastic Surgery In-Service Exam (PSITE) three years in a row.

Not only did Dr. Fruge earn awards for being the top-scoring Harvard plastic surgery resident, but he also ranked in the 99th percentile (top 1%) nationally. His commitment to academic excellence is matched only by his dedication to delivering individualized, high-quality results for every patient.

Training With the Best

Dr. Fruge continues his elite training with a highly sought-after aesthetic fellowship through The Wall Center. Dr. Simeon Wall Sr., Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., and Dr. Holly Casey Wall have mentored him since medical school, sharing their expertise as world-renowned leaders in plastic surgery and instructing him in their advanced breast and body contouring techniques.

To stay at the forefront of his specialty, Dr. Fruge traveled across the United States to study with some of the biggest names in facial plastic surgery. His training focused on complex, revision, and preservation rhinoplasty, deep plane techniques for the face and neck, and leading-edge techniques in eyelid surgery. He also gained valuable experience in nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, learning how to apply novel skin resurfacing treatments to enhance and sustain the results of surgery.

Special Clinical Interests

Dr. Fruge’s surgical interests are primarily centered on facial aesthetics, including:

He is also highly skilled in aesthetic breast and body contouring surgeries, approaching every case with the same precision, care, and artistry that informs his facial rejuvenation practice.

Research That Advances the Field

Dr. Fruge is a lifelong learner and emerging thought leader in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. His academic and clinical contributions span a diverse range of subjects, from peer-reviewed publications and national presentations to online education and authoring textbook chapters.

Most notably, Dr. Fruge co-authored a widely referenced paper in The Aesthetic Surgery Journal on safely combining abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with umbilical hernia repair. This paper, written alongside the journal’s co-chief editor, provides surgeons with a well-defined technique to address skin laxity, muscle separation, and hernias in a single operation.

Dr. Fruge has earned considerable acclaim and recognition across both his medical and athletic careers, including:

Global Perspective, Local Dedication

A strong believer in giving back, Dr. Fruge has participated in international medical missions in Cartagena, Colombia, and Kigali, Rwanda, performing cleft lip and palate repairs and training local surgeons in advanced surgical techniques. His experience in performing cleft nasal repairs further reinforces his expertise in complex rhinoplasty.

Closer to home, he has volunteered with women’s shelters, soup kitchens, and school outreach programs. He also founded Clays for Camp Tiger, a sporting clay fundraiser that has become the most successful student-led event in LSU Health Sciences Center’s history. It has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support a three-day camp for children with disabilities.

These experiences, combined with Dr. Fruge’s deep Louisiana roots, fuel his desire to provide exceptional, compassionate care to patients in Shreveport and across the region and state.

Outside the OR

Outside of medicine, Dr. Fruge is an avid free diver—a pursuit that demands the same calm focus, mental discipline, and precision he brings to the operating room. He also enjoys playing guitar, traveling, and spending time with family.

As one of eight siblings and now a devoted husband and father of three, Dr. Fruge devotes much of his life to caring for others—whether through the time and energy he pours into his family or the commitment and compassion he extends to his patients. He looks forward to bringing that same spirit of connection, loyalty, and support to The Wall Center and the Shreveport community.

He’s proud to return home to his native Louisiana and serve patients with the same drive and integrity that shaped his athletic and academic journey.
