Blepharoplasty, better known as eyelid surgery, is one of the most common procedures we perform in our Shreveport plastic surgery practice. Revealed to be 2017’s 4th most popular plastic surgery procedure in the country, eyelid surgery is known for creating beautiful results with minimal downtime and virtually no visible scarring. At The Wall Center, we’re proud to make this popular procedure even better by adding our surgical techniques.
Candidates for eyelid surgery are commonly dissatisfied with the appearance of their eyelids—whether they sag or appear puffy—or both. Although we perform blepharoplasty on its own, we often perform it in conjunction with a facelift or browlift to provide more comprehensive facial rejuvenation. These combined procedures can completely defy the age of your whole face, brightening and opening your eyes, and offsetting the tired or angry appearance many people develop as they get older.
We also often incorporate EVL, which stands for expansion vibration lipofilling. EVL is a special form of fat grafting that uses unwanted fat from one area of your body to add volume to areas of your face or body that may benefit from additional fat. Our EVL approach is different from older techniques used by other practices that often remove fat from around the eyes. This type of fat removal can actually result in a more aged appearance. Our method of strategically adding fat to even out the appearance of bags or puffiness effectively restores a youthful look to the eye area. EVL can be used with or without other specific blepharoplasty techniques, which we tailor to each patient’s needs.
Very often, eyelid surgery and other facial rejuvenation procedures can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, which improves your comfort after surgery—no grogginess or nausea once you return home. Most of our patients don’t experience a significant amount of bruising. However, swelling is an unavoidable but temporary result of facial surgery. Noticeable swelling lasts for about 1 week, at which time patients can start wearing makeup again. Our physicians provide instructions to help minimize puffiness. Typically, this includes guidelines such as keeping your head elevated at all times, even while you sleep, to reduce fluid accumulation.
The most important takeaway when you’re researching eyelid surgery at The Wall Center is that we take a completely individualized approach to every surgery. Everyone’s face ages uniquely, so we create a customized plan for every person. All of our physicians follow this tailored approach, and you’ll feel the difference we offer at your initial consultation. Expect your surgeon to take measurements of your face and ask you important questions about your skincare habits, lifestyle, aesthetic goals, and more.
We don’t subscribe to the idea that surgery is best for everyone. If you’re bothered by more mild symptoms, nonsurgical options, such as laser resurfacing, may be a better bet. To better understand what’s possible, take a look at our before-and-after gallery of eyelid surgery patients.
