How to avoid trout pout

Lindsay Lohan featuring her lips

Between court appearances and rehab Lindsay Lohan apparently found time to visit a plastic surgeon to plump her lips to unnatural proportions.  Freaky Friday, indeed!  Check out Lindsay’s trout pout in 2009.

We here at our Louisiana plastic surgery practice, believe strongly that lip augmentation should look beautiful and natural—not a trout pout like Lindsay Lohan’s and others, such as Meg Ryan. We cannot imagine anyone wanting to have obviously-filled lips. The goal is kissable, soft and natural looking!

For some people, thin lips are a genetic trait passed down from their parents. For others, it happens with aging, as the lips tend to thin out. Our favorite lip filler is Juvederm Ultra Plus with Lidocaine.  Our Louisiana patients love it because it feels very natural, it injects very smoothly, and now it’s even more comfortable to inject because it comes with Lidocaine built into it.  Even so, we numb the lips beforehand just so our patients don’t have to worry about any discomfort.

We use some other types of injectables around the lips as well, to fill the little wrinkles radiating out from the lips (smoker’s lines) and the wrinkles at the corners of the mouth.  For women wishing a more permanent solution, we really like the Surgisil Perma lip implants, especially for our Louisiana facelift patients.  They can be thought of like gel breast implants, and can always be removed if wanted.  They are the best lip implants we’ve ever used and we’ve had uniformly very high patient satisfaction from them.

By the way, did you know that here in Louisiana, anyone can inject you with fillers, so long as they are “under the supervision of a physician.” They don’t have to be a nurse, a PA or a physician. Unfortunately, the phrase, “under the supervision of a physician” is misleading, as a physician can put his name as the supervisor of a medspa and not even be present during the injections! We trust that you know better than to visit these places for fillers of any kind! Most of these medspas are not supervised by board certified plastic surgeons, by the way.

Remember, it’s not the filler but the hand holding the syringe that creates beautiful results!
